Humanitarian groups call for legal aid and migration reforms in the US

Horizon Sans Frontières (HSF) is calling for the urgent creation of a legal, consular, and humanitarian support committee for Modou Ngom, a Senegalese national in the United States. Ngom was found guilty following a traffic accident that resulted in three deaths and several injuries. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 29, 2026. HSF aims to coordinate Senegalese and American legal experts, diaspora representatives, and civil society actors to work with Ngom’s defense to explore legal avenues for clemency and ensure his rights are respected.

Separately, the Organisation des citoyens pour une nouvelle Haïti (OCNH) is demanding a moratorium on the deportation of Haitian nationals from the United States. The organization reported that 88 Haitian citizens were deported on October 1, noting irregularities such as individuals being returned while asylum procedures were still pending. OCNH also highlighted that some deportees arrived without identification documents and expressed a need for increased psychological and material support from both Haitian and international agencies.
