Humanitarian Marathon in Khan Younis Highlights Gaza Orphaned Children
An awareness marathon was held in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, organized by International Networking for Humanitarian (INH) Indonesia. The event aimed to draw attention to the plight of children who have lost one or both parents during the ongoing conflict. UNICEF reports that more than 58,000 children in Gaza are orphaned and over one million need protection and psychosocial support.
Dozens of young boys and girls participated, while 13‑year‑old Saif Hijazi watched from his wheelchair after being paralysed by artillery shelling. Saif’s father, Rami Hijazi, was killed in an Israeli attack in January 2024. Organisers hope the race will encourage international aid and support for families caring for orphaned children in Gaza.
