Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese implements virtual reality for oncology patients

Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese has implemented the ‘Inner Healing’ project, utilizing virtual reality (VR) to support patients undergoing nuclear medicine treatments. The initiative uses dedicated headsets to provide informative, relaxing, and cultural content designed to improve the experience of oncology patients.

Specifically, the technology is used during the administration of radiopharmaceuticals for treating metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. The VR content includes educational videos created by medical staff to explain the therapy process, facility layouts, and radiation protection guidelines. Additionally, patients can access immersive environments such as natural landscapes and virtual tours of museums and archaeological sites to reduce stress during long treatment sessions.
