Humanoid robot Tonka featured at MIPRO Robotics 2026 in Zadar

During the 5th International Consultation on Robotics, MIPRO Robotics 2026, held at the University of Zadar, an interactive demonstration titled ‘Humanoid Robots – From Walking to Dancing’ took place. The event featured Tonka, a humanoid robot based on the Chinese Unitree G1 platform and upgraded by the Slovenian company Vandri Robotics.

Tonka demonstrated advanced capabilities, including responding to interview questions with sophisticated vocabulary and performing physical feats such as dancing and kung-fu movements. Experts Karolj Skala and Tadej Slapnik discussed the technological challenges of robot locomotion and the integration of physical intelligence. This concept combines machine learning, LiDAR, cameras, and sound sensors to allow robots to perceive and act within their environments autonomously.

While current applications focus on sectors like hospitality, retail, and healthcare to assist staff, experts suggest that humanoid robots capable of performing domestic household chores may be available within one to two years.
