Humanoid robotics advancements in Japan: Geekplus unveils Gino and GMO AIR launches maintenance service

Geekplus has unveiled its general-purpose humanoid robot, ‘Gino’, in Japan for the first time. Designed for logistics, the 150kg robot features dual arms with three-fingered hands equipped with tactile sensors. It utilizes the NVIDIA Jetson Thor (Blackwell) edge AI computer and the ‘Gravity’ AI framework to perform complex tasks, such as picking items from containers. Geekplus aims to begin test implementations in Japanese facilities by fiscal year 2027.

In a parallel development regarding robotics infrastructure, GMO AIR has introduced Japan’s first ‘GMO Humanoid Ambulance’. This specialized vehicle is designed to provide rapid response for humanoid robot malfunctions or technical issues. The service includes on-site diagnosis and repair by engineers, or the provision of replacement units to minimize downtime. This initiative aims to build the necessary maintenance infrastructure to support the large-scale social implementation of humanoid robots in Japan.
