San Francisco hosts first human vs. humanoid robot fight

In San Francisco, content creator Frankie LaPenna participated in what has been billed as the first official fight between a human and a humanoid robot. The event was organized by REK (Robot Entertainment Kombat), a US-based company that promotes robot combat as a form of entertainment and as part of its virtual reality combat game development.

LaPenna faced an EngineAI T800, a humanoid robot standing approximately 1.73 to 1.83 meters tall and weighing between 75 and 90 kilograms. The robot’s design was intentionally modified to resemble the T-800 from the ‘Terminator’ film franchise. While the machine possesses advanced stability and balance through AI, it was not acting autonomously; instead, it was being operated remotely by a human pilot using virtual reality systems and controllers.

The match resulted in significant physical impact. Although LaPenna landed several initial strikes, the robot responded with powerful punches and kicks. During the bout, a forceful kick from the robot sent LaPenna flying across the cage, and reports indicate he sustained injuries, including a broken hand or wrist. The event has sparked online debate regarding the future of robotics in sports and the safety implications of human-robot physical interaction.
