Humanoid robots transition from laboratories to industrial and urban environments

Humanoid robots are transitioning from laboratory prototypes to active operational roles in industrial plants and international logistics centers. Companies such as Tesla, Agility Robotics, Boston Dynamics, and Figure are leading commercial deployments. Notably, Figure's model completed over 1,250 hours of continuous work at a BMW factory, while Agility Robotics has moved more than 100,000 containers.

The adoption of humanoid forms is driven by the ability to utilize existing human-centric infrastructure, such as hallways and tools, without costly facility redesigns. China currently dominates the sector, accounting for 97% of global humanoid shipments in the first half of 2026, with manufacturers offering units starting at $4,900.

In public spaces, humanoid technology is becoming increasingly visible. In Guadalajara, Mexico, a video of a humanoid robot clearing vehicles from a pedestrian crossing went viral, leading social media users to colloquially label it a ‘traffic robot’. This follows other sightings of humanoid robots in the Jalisco region performing various tasks in urban environments.
