Humans First Calls Nationwide Protest Against AI Data Centers on July 18

Conservative advocacy group Humans First is organizing a coordinated National Day of Protest against AI data centers on July 18, with demonstrations planned in more than 50 communities across the United States, including major cities such as Atlanta, Austin, San Francisco and Newark.

The protests aim to highlight local concerns that the rapid expansion of large AI‑powered data facilities could raise electricity and water usage, generate noise, alter landscapes, strain infrastructure, lower property values and pose environmental and security risks. Organizers cite a recent Gallup poll showing roughly 70 % of Americans oppose having an AI data center built in their community.

Humans First chair Amy Kremer said the turnout is expected to be strong and urged elected officials to listen to constituents, emphasizing that “there is power in numbers.” Technology firms argue the facilities are essential for maintaining U.S. competitiveness against rivals such as China, while protesters stress the need for greater community input and oversight.
