Humberto Bettencourt appointed Cabo Verde national football coach

The Cabo Verde Football Federation (FCF) has announced Humberto Bettencourt as the new head coach of the national football team, known as the Blue Sharks. Bettencourt succeeds Pedro Brito, also known as Bubista, who departed after leading the team to its first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026.

Bettencourt, who has served as the first assistant coach for the men's national team since 2020, brings extensive experience to the role. His technical staff includes physical trainer Adinylson Fonseca, analyst Bruno Reis, and assistant coaches António Leite and Filipe Neto. Bettencourt holds a master's degree in Sports Science from the University of Beira Interior in Portugal and a postgraduate degree in Applied Neuroscience to Sport.

Bubista, who held the position for six years, has signed a two-season contract with the Moroccan club RS Berkane. During his tenure, Bubista guided Cabo Verde to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup, where they were eliminated by Argentina in extra time.
