Humberto Coelho criticizes Cristiano Ronaldo and Portuguese Football Federation

Former Portuguese international Humberto Coelho has characterized the recent friction between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) as a “very complicated and dark period” for both the player and the national team.

Speaking on the program ‘Bola Branca’ via Rádio Renascença, Coelho addressed the controversy surrounding Ronaldo’s departure from the national team, which reportedly involved the player requesting transport to an airport where his private jet could land after refusing certain accommodations. Coelho, a former Benfica defender and FPF vice-president, noted that the situation resulted in no winners and expressed regret over the breakdown in management.

While defending Ronaldo’s long-standing contributions to the national team, Coelho stated that such incidents should not occur under proper leadership. He suggested that Ronaldo’s future return to the national squad depends on the willingness of his teammates to receive him and the establishment of better protocols to prevent similar conflicts.
