Humpback whale found stranded in Coquimbo, Chile
A humpback whale was found stranded in the Punta de Teatinos sector within the Coquimbo region. Following the discovery, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA) activated official protocols and coordinated specialized teams in wildlife and marine mammals to conduct a necropsy.
Researchers from Universidad del Alba participated in the procedure, which included three professionals and one research student. The team collected samples and images to assist in diagnosing the potential causes of the whale's death. This collaboration is part of an ongoing two-year agreement between the university and SERNAPESCA regarding the study and protection of marine fauna.
