Humphrey Chiwandamira banned from driving for 30 months

Humphrey Chiwandamira, 33, has received a 30-month driving ban and 210 hours of unpaid work after admitting to driving under the influence and without due care and attention.

The incident occurred on April 13 last year when Chiwandamira, driving a BMW, swerved across the M25 near Byfleet, prompting emergency calls from motorists. He later drove erratically on the A3, nearly crashing in the Hindhead Tunnel, before colliding with parked cars on New Road in Camelsdale.

According to Staines Magistrates Court, Chiwandamira had consumed half a bottle of vodka prior to the M25 incident. Although he initially avoided arrest by sleeping in his vehicle, he was later apprehended. Testing revealed he was three-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit, recording 289 milligrams of alcohol in 100 mls of blood.
