Humtso-Elumyo road project faces delays under PMGSY

Stakeholders, including the Public Works Department (PWD), village councils, and youth organizations, recently met in Wokha to review the stalled Humtso-Elumyo road project. The project, sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) in March 2024, was originally intended to be completed within 18 months but is currently undergoing its second extension.

While preliminary work such as earth cutting, side drain excavation, and the installation of Hume pipe culverts has been completed, core engineering tasks—including Full Depth Reclamation (FDR), Plain Cement Concrete (PCC), and bituminous surfacing—have not yet begun. Officials attributed the delays to persistent rainfall, machinery shortages, and mechanical breakdowns.

The PWD stated that efforts are being made to ensure the project is completed by March 2027. The Humtso Village Youth Organization (HVYO) has appealed to the executing agency to expedite construction to provide a motorable road before the upcoming Christmas season.
