Hunan aviation industry grows as Yichun lithium mines undergo compliance overhaul

In Hunan, China, the low-altitude economy is seeing significant growth, particularly in the light aircraft sector. Shanhe Xinghang, a representative enterprise in the region, reported that its Aurora light sport aircraft has seen a surge in demand. While the first 100 units took over a decade to sell, the second 100 units were sold in less than two years. The aircraft has been delivered to 28 provinces in China and exported to the US, Australia, and Russia. Hunan provincial leadership has emphasized the need to build a general aviation manufacturing base and expand market applications.

Simultaneously, the lithium mining industry in Yichun, Jiangxi, is undergoing a major regulatory shift toward compliance. Following new mineral resource laws, many lithium mica mines are undergoing a mandatory process to correct discrepancies between their existing mining permits (often for non-metallic minerals like clay) and their actual lithium extraction activities. This transition involves rigorous reserve verification and environmental assessments overseen by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

This regulatory tightening has reduced the informal supply elasticity of lithium mica. As mines pause production to await new permits, lithium carbonate refineries in Yichun have reported lower operating rates due to raw material shortages. The era of rapid, unregulated supply expansion is being replaced by a centralized, state-approved approval process.
