Hunedoara County manages school program and infrastructure upgrades

The Hunedoara County Council has assumed full responsibility for managing Romania’s School Program for the academic years 2026–2027 through 2028–2029. This decision follows consultations with local municipalities, none of which expressed the intent to manage the public procurement procedures directly. The Council will now oversee tenders and framework agreements for food supplies and educational services across all pre-university institutions in the county.

The established daily menu for preschool and K-12 students includes specific nutritional standards, such as at least 100 grams of apples and 200 ml of UHT milk without added sugars or sweeteners. The program also includes an educational component featuring student visits to farms, research stations, and processing units.

In a separate development regarding educational infrastructure, the West Regional Development Agency (ADR Vest) is managing significant European fund investments to modernize over 130 schools, kindergartens, and high schools across the West Region. In Hunedoara, 82 million euros will be invested in 49 educational units, with 68 million euros coming from non-reimbursable funding. This initiative is part of a broader regional effort involving Arad, Caraș-Severin, and Timiș to improve learning conditions for tens of thousands of students.
