Romanian police conduct widespread road safety enforcement
Romanian police have conducted extensive road safety operations across several regions, resulting in numerous sanctions and criminal investigations. In Argeș, a coordinated effort involving 130 checkpoints led to 339 fines totaling over 120,000 lei, with 12 drivers losing their licenses and 12 vehicle registrations being withdrawn.
In Lugoj, a high-speed pursuit ended in a serious accident when a 27-year-old driver, who was unlicensed and driving under the influence of alcohol (1.02 mg/l), collided with an oncoming vehicle. The impact sent the other car into a restaurant terrace, injuring four people, including the drivers and a bystander. The suspect faces criminal charges including driving without a license, driving under the influence, and causing bodily harm.
Other enforcement actions included a relay operation on the DN 7 highway in Hunedoara to combat speeding and substance abuse, and the investigation of a 42-year-old man in Câmpulung for driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding criminal thresholds.
