Hunedoara students commemorate Ioan de Hunedoara in Belgrade
Students from Hunedoara are undertaking a historical excursion to Belgrade to commemorate the 570th anniversary of Ioan (Iancu) de Hunedoara's victory in defending Belgrade against the Ottoman invasion.
As part of the "Road of the Corvins" project, 20 students from local colleges and high schools will visit sites linked to the Corvin family legacy. The delegation, accompanied by the director of the Corvin Castle Museum and the Mayor of Hunedoara, will lay wreaths at the monument dedicated to Ioan de Hunedoara in Belgrade's Medieval Fortress and at his statue in Zemun, where he passed away in 1456.
This initiative follows the Romanian Parliament's decision to declare 2026 as the "Year of Ioan de Hunedoara," a legislative move intended to highlight the historical contributions of the Corvin family to European history.
