Hunedoara youth swimming participation rises to 39 national competitors

The number of young swimmers from Hunedoara County participating in national competitions has seen a modest increase, rising to 39 children in 2026 compared to 35 in 2022. This 11% growth trails the national average, which saw a nearly 22% increase in participation during the same period.

Performance is primarily driven by two major structures: Clubul Sportiv Școlar Hunedoara and Colegiul Național Sportiv „Cetate” Deva. In 2026, athletes from these clubs secured 10 podium finishes in individual events, including one national title.

Despite the presence of four public swimming pools in the Jiu Valley region—located in Petroșani, Petrila, Vulcan, and Lupeni—there are currently no swimming clubs in these areas affiliated with the Romanian Swimming and Modern Pentathlon Federation.
