Hung Cao nominated by Trump for permanent Navy Secretary

President Donald Trump has officially nominated Hung Cao to serve as the permanent Secretary of the Navy. Cao, a retired Navy captain and combat veteran who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia, has been serving in an acting capacity since April following the departure of John Phelan.

Trump described Cao as a “true WARRIOR” and urged the Senate to expedite his confirmation process. Cao’s priorities include expanding U.S. shipbuilding and strengthening maritime capabilities. His nomination comes during a period of significant leadership turnover within the Pentagon and amidst operational strain caused by the ongoing war with Iran, which has resulted in extended deployments for sailors and concerns regarding crew mental health and supplies.

Cao previously served as the Navy undersecretary and has been a political candidate in Virginia. If confirmed by the Senate, he will formally oversee both the Navy and the Marine Corps.
