Hung Dance kicks off North American tour in Los Angeles
Taiwanese contemporary dance company Hung Dance has launched its 2026 autumn North American tour with the Los Angeles premiere of “Birdy” at the University of Southern California’s Bovard Auditorium. Created by artistic director and choreographer Lai Hung-chung, the piece integrates traditional opera elements, such as long pheasant feathers (lingzi), with Tai Chi and contemporary dance movements to explore themes of freedom and constraint.
The production has previously received recognition from The New York Times. The tour will continue through the United States and Canada, with scheduled performances in cities including Portland, Seattle, Montreal, Calgary, and Banff.
In addition to the main performance, the company is hosting a dance workshop at the USC Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles is also facilitating an exchange tea party to encourage interaction between the artists and the local arts community.
