Hung Ngan apartments converted into overcrowded student dormitories

Apartments at the Hung Ngan complex in Ho Chi Minh City are reportedly being converted into overcrowded student dormitories. In one instance, a 68m² apartment on the 14th floor was found to house 24 students.

Students have reported being misled by recruiters regarding the number of occupants per room. While initial information suggested 6 to 8 people per unit, many discovered much higher densities only after moving in. Additionally, students face high financial risks, including a requirement to pay a security deposit equivalent to five months of rent. Many students, often from provinces with little experience navigating the city's rental market, feel trapped due to the difficulty of recovering deposits if they attempt to leave the overcrowded conditions.
