Hung Yen officials debunk unofficial commune merger map

Hung Yen provincial authorities have clarified that an administrative map circulating on social media, which depicts a plan to merge various communes and wards, is unofficial. Pham Van Khue, Head of the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee's Organization Board, stated that the map was created and posted by an individual, causing confusion among citizens and local officials.

The province currently manages 104 commune-level administrative units, consisting of 93 communes and 11 wards. Officials noted that 33 of these units do not currently meet central government standards: 32 fail to meet natural area requirements and one fails to meet population scale requirements. This is attributed to the historical administrative structure of the region.

While the circulating map is fake, Hung Yen is indeed studying a proposal to rearrange and merge certain administrative units. This process aims to streamline the state management apparatus and optimize resources in accordance with central government guidelines, considering factors such as population size, area, socio-economic conditions, and historical traditions.
