Hung Yen Police warn of online wedding invitation scams

Police in Hung Yen province have issued a warning regarding a new digital scam involving fraudulent online wedding invitations sent via social media platforms like Facebook and Zalo.

Scammers are either creating fake accounts or hijacking existing accounts of acquaintances to send messages inviting recipients to view electronic wedding invitations. These messages often include malicious links that redirect users to fraudulent websites. Once clicked, these sites may prompt users to enter Facebook login credentials, phone numbers, passwords, or OTP codes.

In more severe cases, the links may trick users into downloading malware-infected applications. These apps can request permissions to access contacts, messages, or accessibility settings, allowing criminals to monitor activity and steal funds from bank accounts. Authorities advise citizens to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links, even if they appear to come from known contacts.
