Hungarian actor András Stohl criticizes high theater ticket prices

Actor András Stohl has expressed discomfort regarding the high cost of tickets for the play ‘Furcsa pár’ at the Centrál Színház. Due to high demand for the production, which he stars in alongside Róbert Alföldi, ticket prices have reached up to 39,000 HUF, with New Year's Eve performances climbing as high as 60,000 HUF.

Stohl noted that these prices place significant pressure on performers, as audiences rightfully expect a memorable experience for such a high investment. While he understands the necessity of revenue for theater operations, he stated he would prefer prices to be roughly half of the current rates.

In response to the criticism, the management of Centrál Színház defended their use of dynamic pricing. The theater stated that they must operate at the highest available market prices to survive, citing disproportionate cultural policy support and the need to cover the high costs of production and staff compared to other Budapest theaters.
