Hungarian Advertising Association proposes public interest quotas
The Out-of-Home (OOH) division of the Hungarian Advertising Association (MRSZ) has launched a nationwide campaign titled ‘Public Space Advertising for the Common Good’. The initiative aims to demonstrate that outdoor advertising serves purposes beyond commercial interests, such as promoting civil organizations, cultural programs, and public safety information.
As part of the campaign, the MRSZ is proposing a regulatory framework that includes a guaranteed and verifiable quota for using public advertising space for public interest purposes. The association also supports the government's goal of creating a more organized urban landscape by eliminating illegal advertising tools and reducing visual clutter.
To address past negative perceptions of outdoor advertising, the MRSZ has committed to a policy of political neutrality, stating that political advertisements will not be permitted on public advertising surfaces. Additionally, the association suggests that advertising should be prohibited in historical districts and monument environments, while other areas should follow density and distance regulations to prevent visual overcrowding.
