Feledy Botond dismissed from Hungarian Foreign Policy Institute

Botond Feledy has been removed from his position as head of the Hungarian Foreign Policy Institute due to a loss of confidence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the immediate termination after discovering that Feledy’s company had maintained professional ties with the previous administration, including receiving approximately 84 million forints from János Lázár’s ministry through non-public procurement contracts.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar described the dismissal as a difficult but necessary decision, stating that individuals cannot hold leadership positions under the current administration if they conceal significant public funding received from the previous government. While Magyar noted that working for a previous administration is not inherently disqualifying, he emphasized that the lack of transparency regarding these contracts during the appointment process was the deciding factor.

Feledy responded via social media, asserting that his company provided independent foreign policy analyses and that his work was conducted with integrity. He noted that his firm had been contracted by the Ministry of Construction and Transport in 2023 and that he had not intended to hide these professional activities.
