Ferencváros advances to Europa League after defeating Trabzonspor
Ferencváros has qualified for the UEFA Europa League league stage after defeating Trabzonspor with a 4-0 victory in the second leg of the play-off round. Following a 1-0 win in the first leg, the Hungarian side secured a 5-0 aggregate victory.
The match at the Groupama Aréna was heavily influenced by early disciplinary issues for the Turkish visitors. Trabzonspor's Ruslan Malinovskyi was sent off in the 13th minute, and later, Sydney Cabral received a second yellow card, leaving the team with nine players.
Ferencváros capitalized on the numerical advantage with goals from Callum O’Dowda, Marius Corbu, Bamidele Yusuf (penalty), and Krisztián Lisztes. Following the defeat, Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke reportedly offered his resignation, though the club leadership declined.
As Ferencváros prepares for the Europa League group stage, they face a challenging draw that includes opponents such as Juventus and AC Milan. Trabzonspor will instead continue their European campaign in the UEFA Conference League, where their opponents include Freiburg, Red Star Belgrade, and Hearts.
