Hungarian audit finds Vác football club misused roughly 270 million forints in public funds

Hungary’s State Audit Office (Állami Számvevőszék) concluded that the Vác City Football Club (Váci Városi Labdarúgó Sportegyesület) submitted falsified bank documents and diverted sport‑development subsidies away from their intended purpose. The audit identified irregularities amounting to about 270 million forints, with false statements used to justify the existence of the funds and delayed reporting in the 2022‑2023 accounts.

The audit report notes that the club recorded received subsidies as other income rather than liabilities, failed to keep a separate ledger for the funds, and repeatedly extended deadlines for projects such as a synthetic‑grass stadium and locker‑room renovations. On the basis of the findings, the audit office lodged a criminal complaint with the relevant authorities. The report also referenced separate investigations of other municipal bodies, but the central issue concerns the Vác football club’s alleged financial misappropriation.
