Hungarian authorities audit Ferencváros state subsidy usage

The Hungarian state secretariat responsible for sports has ordered a follow-up audit regarding state subsidies linked to the ‘Fradiváros’ project. This follows a dispute involving the Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC), which received approximately 25 billion forint in state funding between 2016 and 2017 intended for construction projects.

The Ministry of Interior has reportedly filed a report with the National Tax and Customs Administration’s Criminal Directorate, alleging suspicions of budgetary fraud, breach of trust, abuse of office, and the use of false private documents. The Ministry has requested the repayment of nearly 25 billion forint, citing issues with how the funds were accounted for.

Gábor Kubatov, president of FTC, has criticized the Ministry, calling the investigation a ‘conceptual procedure’ and questioning the feasibility of reviewing 15,000 pages of documentation in such a short timeframe. He maintains that the funds were used according to government decisions. Attila Kálnoki-Kiss, the state secretary for sports, stated that the investigation is a legal and financial matter rather than one of club sympathy.
