Hungarian Békés County Farmer Charged Over 5.5 Million Forint Cannabis Trafficking Operation

The Békés County Prosecutor’s Office filed an aggravated drug‑trafficking indictment against a 33‑year‑old farmer from Békéscsaba. Prosecutors say he cultivated more than 1,000 cannabis plants between July 2021 and September 2025, using fields and a foil greenhouse, and sold the dried material in packages of 20 to 250 grams, earning about 5.5 million forints.

Police seized 21 live plants and 160 kg of dried cannabis during a September 2025 raid, finding that the THC content exceeded the legal limit by roughly 126 %. The indictment seeks a prison term of five to twenty years, possibly life imprisonment, together with deprivation of public office and confiscation of the 5.5 million forints, a high‑value car and real‑estate assets.
