Hungarian business and export credit controversies
Hungarian businessman István Tiborcz, owner of BDPST Group and husband of Ráhel Orbán, is facing scrutiny regarding state-funded projects. Reports indicate that 3.9 billion forints in state aid were allocated for the development of the Grandhotel Galya in Galyatető. BDPST Group stated that its companies provide development, project management, and brand strategy services for the investment.
Separately, Pólus Kereskedelmi Pénzügyi és Szolgáltató Kft., a company whose revenue is 99 percent export-based, is facing questions regarding its exposure to Russia. The company, which exports construction work and medical equipment to Russia, has received state export credits from Eximbank. While the exact amount of credit and remaining exposure remains undisclosed by Eximbank due to banking secrecy, public references suggest projects valued at approximately 12 billion forints. It is unclear how these debts will be repaid given the current geopolitical situation.
