Hungarian car buyers face hidden faults and repair disputes
In Hungary, prospective used‑car purchasers can obtain a free, detailed vehicle history by logging into the national e‑government portal (Ügyfélkapu). The service provides official data on the model, production year, registration history, technical inspections, mileage records, insurance status, legal restrictions and any reported accidents dating back to 2019.
At the same time, consumer organisations report a surge in complaints about warranty repairs on new cars. Buyers allege double pricing, non‑transparent quoting, incomplete service records and difficulties obtaining replacements or refunds under the mandatory three‑year warranty. The national consumer‑protection federation stresses that service centres must issue proper repair reports, document mileage and timestamps, and honor replacement or price‑refund obligations when repairs fail repeatedly.
