Hungarian cemeteries extend hours for All Saints and All Souls' Day

Cemeteries across Hungary, including those in Budapest and Eger, are implementing special measures for the upcoming All Saints' and All Souls' Day observances.

In Budapest, public cemeteries such as Új Köztemető, Farkasréti, and Óbudai will extend their opening hours from October 30 to November 2, allowing visitors access between 7:00 and 20:00. To maintain tranquility, vehicle access to most Budapest cemeteries will be prohibited on October 31 and November 1, with the exception of Új Köztemető, which offers free entry during specific periods. Commemorative events, including candle-lighting ceremonies and ecumenical services, are scheduled at several locations.

In Eger, municipal cemeteries including Grőber, Lajosvárosi, and Hősök will remain open from 7:00 to 22:00. Local authorities are increasing the presence of public space supervisors and civil guards, working alongside the Eger Police Department to ensure safety. To accommodate increased traffic, bus services will be intensified, and MÁV is adjusting train schedules to support visitors traveling to the cemeteries. Recent infrastructure improvements were also noted, including a 14.29 million HUF renovation of urn walls at the Lajosvárosi cemetery.
