Hungarian Chamber of Commerce leadership faces calls for resignation

Five regional presidents of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) have issued an open letter calling for the immediate resignation of MKIK President Elek Nagy and the organization’s operational leadership. The regional leaders, representing Vas, Békés, Hajdú-Bihar, Pest, and Sopron, cited serious concerns regarding financial management, asset handling, contracting practices, and ownership decisions.

The signatories expressed opposition to the increasing centralization of the chamber and a management style characterized by one-person decision-making and a narrow leadership circle. They stated that these practices have led to a significant loss of trust both within and outside the chamber system.

In response, the MKIK issued a statement noting that during a recent collegiate meeting, the majority of regional presidents expressed their continued confidence in Nagy and the leadership, requesting they manage the current situation. The chamber also addressed recent government announcements regarding the abolition of the mandatory 5,000 HUF contribution, noting that they are evaluating the organizational consequences of these legislative changes.
