Hungarian civil organizations seek return to schools

Civil organizations in Hungary are seeking to re-establish their presence in schools following years of restrictions. In 2021, legislative changes by the Orbán government limited school activities to staff and state-affiliated bodies, effectively excluding external organizations from providing sessions on topics such as sexual education, drug prevention, internet safety, and mental health.

While a registration system remained unestablished for years, the National Public Health and Pharmaceutical Center has recently been designated to manage the registry. This development allows for the potential return of civil organizations to provide drug prevention programs under strict conditions. However, the broader scope for these organizations to participate in various educational areas remains uncertain.
