Hungarian coffee consumption shifts toward specialty and whole bean varieties

Hungarian coffee consumption habits are shifting toward higher quality and specialty products. According to data from Kifli.hu, sales of coffee intended for home preparation increased by 21 percent over the past year. Within this category, demand for whole bean coffee saw a significant rise of 57 percent, while sales of products from domestic roasters grew by 53 percent.

While capsule coffee remains the most popular segment, accounting for approximately 47.6 percent of sales, the whole bean category is experiencing the fastest growth. Instant coffee sales also grew by 47 percent.

In response to these trends, Kifli.hu has partnered with specialty roaster Samurai Shoelace to launch a limited edition Nespresso-compatible capsule. The product features a single-origin Ethiopian coffee, with packaging including the GPS coordinates of the Abebe Mulugeta washing station. The capsules are made from 80 percent recycled aluminum and are 100 percent recyclable.
