Hungary Reopens Dombóvár‑Komló Railway Line

Hungarian Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid announced that passenger trains will resume on the Dombóvár–Komló line on 1 August 2026. The line, closed in August 2023, has undergone more than 18 km of track work, including regulation of the rails and reinforcement at 6 500 points, to ensure safety.

Trains will run on Bz motor coaches under the S447 designation, covering the 42‑minute journey in 42 minutes—eight minutes faster than the former bus substitute—and will operate on a two‑hour interval during most of the day, with additional services for commuters in the early‑morning and evening periods. The schedule was developed together with local civil organisations to match regional travel demand and to provide reliable connections to the Mecsek InterCity services between Budapest and Pécs, as well as routes toward Kaposvár and Baja.

A 400‑forint discounted ticket, purchasable on board, will continue to be available, and the 1 490‑forint Mecsek day ticket will again be accepted on the line. New passenger‑information devices, including the country’s first e‑paper terminal at Mecsekpölöske, will offer real‑time travel data at stations.
