Hungarian economic experts call for structural reforms and productivity gains

Economic experts and business leaders are emphasizing the need for structural changes to ensure Hungary's long-term economic convergence with the EU average. György Surányi, former governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, stated that sustainable growth is impossible without significant improvements in production efficiency and 'creative destruction.' He argued against state interventionism and suggested that price controls and interest rate caps should be abolished to allow resources to flow toward innovation and export-driven sectors.

Attila Gazsi, president of the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ), echoed the need for high-performing companies that can compete on an international scale. Meanwhile, analysis of the 2027 budget suggests a potential redistribution of tax burdens rather than broad tax cuts. This may include increased corporate taxes and retail surcharges, potentially offset by personal income tax reductions related to the minimum wage.
