Hungarian experts caution against summer UV damage to hair and skin

A cosmetician in Balatonfüred notes that many people make basic mistakes in sun protection during the summer, exposing skin to increased UV stress. She stresses the need for proper sunscreen with SPF 30‑50, regular reapplication especially after prolonged outdoor activity, and maintaining hydration even in air‑conditioned environments.

Dermatologists also point out that UV rays affect hair and scalp, breaking down the cuticle, reducing moisture, causing brittleness, colour fading and scalp sunburn. They recommend wearing wide‑brim hats or scarves, using hair products that contain UV filters, rinsing hair after swimming in salty or chlorinated water, and applying moisturizing shampoos, conditioners and regular trims.

Both experts advise monitoring skin for persistent redness, new pigment spots or changes in moles and seeking professional evaluation. Together, these measures aim to prevent long‑term damage to both skin and hair during the hotter months.
