Hungarian Football Federation faces 12-year accounting gap in sports funding

The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) and the State Secretariat for Sport have failed to finalize the accounting for sports support programs for over 12 years. Data requests reveal that since the 2013–2014 season, no settlement has been concluded for these programs.

Out of approximately 121.92 billion forints in approved support, roughly 106 billion forints remains without a finalized decision regarding its legal use. The two institutions have provided conflicting information regarding the submission and receipt of reports. In several instances, the MLSZ claimed reports were submitted on specific dates, while the State Secretariat recorded them as arriving much later or not at all.

The MLSZ has attributed these discrepancies to inaccurate data provision and “mid-season reallocations.” Attila Kálnoki-Kiss, the State Secretary for Sport, stated that an investigation is underway to determine how such long periods of unclosed support years could occur, emphasizing the urgent need for a solution that benefits the federation, clubs, and the state budget.
