Anita Orbán and Marco Rubio sign energy and security pacts

Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed two bilateral cooperation agreements in Washington on Thursday, October 29. The agreements focus on regional energy infrastructure and law enforcement cooperation.

The first agreement, part of the Trump Peace Pipelines Framework, aims to develop regional oil and gas infrastructure in Central and Southeastern Europe. This initiative seeks to increase the capacity for importing U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to provide alternative energy sources and enhance energy security in the region.

The second agreement focuses on strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and improving intelligence sharing to combat crimes committed by radical organizations. Orbán specifically cited the need to address extremist and radical left-wing groups, such as Antifa.

Prior to the meeting with Rubio, which had been postponed due to the Secretary's travel to Texas, Orbán held discussions with officials from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) regarding potential investments in Hungarian energy and transport projects. She also met with U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Francis Brooke to discuss Hungary's macroeconomic situation and incentives for American investment.
