Hungarian forint shows resilience against major currencies
The Hungarian forint has shown resilience and strength against major currencies despite international economic uncertainty. While the currency experienced slight fluctuations against the euro, dollar, and Swiss franc at the start of the week, it has maintained a stronger position compared to the beginning of the month and the start of the year.
Market analysts attribute the forint's performance to several factors, including favorable developments regarding European Union funds and a weakening dollar. Although US inflation data—which rose to 3.7% in September—triggered expectations of further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and temporarily pressured the forint, the currency recovered toward the end of the week.
Geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, have also influenced market sentiment and energy prices, impacting the broader economic environment for emerging market currencies.
