Hungarian forint weakens amid market volatility
The Hungarian forint experienced weakness against major currencies on September 14, 2026. The euro rose to approximately 365.97 HUF from a morning rate of 364.29 HUF, while the Swiss franc and US dollar also saw increases against the local currency.
Market volatility was driven by several factors, including rising energy prices due to Middle Eastern conflicts and inflation risks. While lower-than-expected inflation initially fueled expectations for interest rate cuts—putting pressure on the forint—the subsequent rise in energy costs created further uncertainty.
On the domestic equity market, the Budapest Stock Exchange's BUX index closed at 793 points, representing a 0.5 percent decrease, with a daily turnover of 21.8 billion HUF.
