Hungarian gastronomy faces crisis amid industry struggles

The Hungarian hospitality sector is facing significant challenges, according to chef Jenő Rácz. In an interview regarding his restaurant, Rumour, which recently received recognition at the Restaurant Guide awards, Rácz noted that the industry is in a deep crisis. He described the current state of Hungarian gastronomy as a period of survival, noting that since the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector has struggled to recover and is seeing a decline in customers.

In contrast to these industry-wide struggles, specific culinary events continue to highlight high-level gastronomy in Budapest. 101 Bistro hosted a special Asian-themed evening featuring Japanese chef Yutaro Negishi. The event showcased specialized techniques, including sushi preparation and the use of Kikkoman products, alongside dishes from 101 Bistro founder Lu Boen.
