Hungarian government and Academy form working groups for science

Representatives from three Hungarian ministries and the leadership of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) met to discuss strengthening cooperation to support the development of Hungarian science. The meeting, initiated by MTA President Mihály Pósfai, addressed thirteen specific areas where closer collaboration could improve scientific operations and social utility.

Key topics of discussion included talent management, research supporting public education, and the support of university research groups. The parties also addressed the restructuring of universities, scientific quality assurance—including issues related to the MTA doctorate title—and the alignment of grant systems between the MTA and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH).

Additional agenda items involved scientific information infrastructure and the management of national cultural and scientific collections, such as the Széchenyi Literary and Artistic Academy, the MTA Art Collection, the Hungarian Natural History Museum, and the 1956 Oral History Archive. To address the identified issues, the government and the Academy agreed to establish joint working groups and maintain regular professional consultations.
