Hungarian government cancels Pázmány Péter University dormitory project
The Hungarian government has officially withdrawn its decision regarding the development of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University dormitory located on Farkasvölgyi út. This move results in a 12 billion forint budgetary saving.
The project was originally part of a post-pandemic economic relaunch plan. Although 12 billion forints had been allocated for the preparation and construction of the dormitory in 2021, no actual construction or payments had taken place. The properties involved were transferred to Reformed and Benedictine church ownership in 2021 to support educational and religious goals.
The decision to cancel the development follows various controversies, including local opposition from the Józsefváros municipality and civil organizations regarding demolition and urban density. The relevant religious organizations have been informed of the decision and will determine how to utilize the real estate in the future.
