Hungarian Government Extends Support for Csángó Hungarian Schools in Moldavia

The Hungarian government confirmed that it will continue financing the Hungarian-language education program for the Csángó community in Romania's Moldavia region. In a statement, Polgár László, president of the Moldovan Csángó Hungarian Association, said he met with Deputy State Secretary Kollai István, who reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the program that has operated since 2000 and now serves several thousand children through language classes, folk‑dance, music and cultural activities.

The association also announced a recruitment drive for teachers willing to relocate to remote Csángó villages, with applications open until mid‑August. The sought‑after educators are expected to join after‑school and school‑hour lessons that preserve the Hungarian language and cultural heritage of the minority population. Continued funding is described as providing stability and predictability for children, families, and educators involved in the program.
