Hungarian government investigates toll system contracts and acquisitions

The Hungarian government has launched a detailed investigation into the country's toll system, focusing on past contracts and state acquisitions of private companies. The Ministry of Transport and Investment (KBM) and the Prime Minister's Office are examining whether billions of forints spent on these services were justified.

Key areas of the probe include payments made to Asura Technologies Kft. for toll collection services that were ultimately never implemented. Additionally, authorities are reviewing the state's purchase of three private companies for tens of billions of forints to determine the rationale behind the high acquisition costs.

A significant legal dispute is emerging between the state and Gábor Emőri, the former owner of i-Cell Mobilsoft. While a previous agreement suggests Emőri is owed approximately 6–7 billion forints, the KBM considers the relevant portion of the contract signed by the former Ministry of Construction and Transport to be void and refuses to release the funds.
