Hungarian government supports Transcarpathian Hungarian schools

Hungarian Deputy State Secretary István Kollai attended the opening of the new school year for Hungarian-language schools in Transcarpathia. He emphasized that the Hungarian government aims to support local initiatives and institutions that ensure the survival and prosperity of the community.

Kollai noted that despite ongoing war conditions, schools have continued to open for five years, a feat attributed to the resilience of teachers and parents. The Hungarian government continues to provide support for education ranging from kindergartens to higher education, including teacher support and child nutrition programs. Additionally, the government is contributing 115 million forints to repair educational buildings damaged by storms in late July.

Ildikó Orosz, president of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Teachers' Association (KMPSZ), highlighted recent agreements between Hungary and Ukraine regarding minority and educational issues as a significant positive development. The association remains hopeful for the establishment of a legal framework for minority school status to ensure the free use of the mother tongue in educational institutions.
