Hungarian Government to Drop Chancellery Role in Vocational Training Centres

The Hungarian government has submitted to the parliament an amendment to the vocational training law that would abolish the dual‑leadership (chancellery) model in vocational training centres.

Education and Child Care Minister Judit Lannert proposes that from 1 January 2027 the chief director of each centre will inherit the former chancellor’s duties, creating a simpler, less hierarchical leadership structure intended to speed decisions and increase teacher autonomy. Applications for the new chief‑director posts must be advertised by 30 September.

The proposal also calls for accreditation exam centres to be inspected every three years and seeks to strengthen the supportive function of the vocational system. Government spokesperson Vanda Szondi reiterated the change on 16 July, noting the shift to an integrated chief‑director role.

The teachers’ union has criticised the draft for not addressing the pay and employment conditions of non‑teaching staff.
